Pikeville, KY

I'm a little behind on my blogging, but I promise to have posts covering our recent stops in Lexington & Louisville soon!
Our first concert in Kentucky was at Pikeville High School. After playing in gyms and field houses for a few days, it was nice to be back in a concert hall.  One of the things I enjoyed about this concert was that there were lots of young people in attendance, particularly from local band and JROTC programs. Having the opportunity to hear military bands when I was in high school certainly helped shape my interest in music.

In case anybody is curious, this is what our tour bus looks like. It also has the Army star logo on the back. Pretty sweet huh? We have done three concerts in Kentucky and are now headed to Indiana.

Welcome to the Army Band field! I'm not actually in the field itself, but married to a musician-turned-bandmaster. He's been in the band field for 16 years now, and a bandmaster for over 5. I poked through your blog (it's a blessing you just started it, or I'd have sat here all day reading it, lol).

I have to agree with you on the Armed Forces Medley. As an Air Force veteran and and Army wife, I stand twice, and I am always craning my neck to see who is standing...it is an awesome feeling to stand up and be recognized for service, but more awesome to see those who are standing. Don't worry, that song will become a head-tune in no time and you'll be able to people-watch more.

For the record - I met my husband in NYC when I decided to join the Army band field...hired him as my instructor. 12 years and 2 kids later, I'm not in the band field (never made it there, actually) but I'm "in" the Army!
